The big problem with the system of republics is the constant infighting. Since their vision is so narrow, when there is an attack from an external enemy, these republics don't unite and offer resistance. It is for this reason an empire is necessary. But the problem with a kingdom or an empire is that the local and regional identities don't survive. An ideal kingdom should lay stress on the local as well as the pan national aspects. Yoga is a Sanskrit word that means ‘union.’ It simply means joining two things. For example, Rigveda Samhita 7.67.8 uses the word ‘yoga’ when it refers to the yoking of the horses to the chariot.

Alexander Solzhenitsyn: His Relevance Today

Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the Nobel Laureate (1970, for literature), is one of the eminent writers of Soviet Russia of the twentieth century. Although he won the most coveted Noble Prize he was expelled from the USSR’s union of writers, and he was denied the use of state archives and libraries. Besides, Solzhenitsyn was ostracized by Soviet officialdom. The then Russian government did not permit Solzhenitsyn to receive the Nobel Prize. Luckily, Solzhenitsyn had already left for the United States of America by the time the Prize was announced.
