ŚALYA-PARVA

After Karṇa’s death, Kṛpācārya suggested to Duryodhana that they could enter a treaty of peace with the Pāṇḍavas. Duryodhana, however, refused to do so and decided to go ahead with the war. He appointed Śalya as the commander-in-chief of the Kaurava forces. On the following day, Śalya organized the Kaurava army in the form of a Sarvatobhadra-vyūha and stood at its helm. Kṛtavarma took a place to his left, Kṛpācārya on the right, and Aśvatthāma stood behind him. Duryodhana was in the middle of these heroes.

೩. ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟಸಮಾಸಗಳು

ಭಾರತೀಯಭಾಷೆಗಳ ಬಲಗಳ ಪೈಕಿ ಒಂದು ಸಮಾಸಗುಂಫನಶಕ್ತಿ. ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಕ್ಕಿದು ಸರ್ವೋಚ್ಚವಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಮೂಲಕ ನುಡಿಗೆ ಹೊಸತೊಂದು ಕಸುವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವುದಲ್ಲದೆ ಅಂದ-ಅಡಕಗಳನ್ನೂ ತರಬಹುದು. ಜೊತೆಗೆ, ರೂಪಕನಿರ್ಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಮಾಸವೇ ಸರ್ವಸಮರ್ಥ. ಲೋಕಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧವಾದ ದ್ವಂದ್ವ, ತತ್ಪುರುಷ, ಬಹುವ್ರೀಹಿ, ಕರ್ಮಧಾರಯಗಳಂಥ ಸಮಾಸಗಳಲ್ಲದೆ ಪ್ರಾದಿ, ನಞ್, ಅಲುಕ್, ಉಪಪದ, ಅವ್ಯಯೀಭಾವಗಳಂಥ ಸಮಾಸಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಗಳಿಗೆ ನುಡಿಗಟ್ಟುಗಳಾಗುವ ಅವಕಾಶವಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಂಥ ಕೆಲವು ಮಾದರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸೋಣ.

The storage of the genealogical records and investing in their maintenance are the things that have barely captured the emphasis of our folk. On the contrary, the European world seems to have taken some interest at least, in this regard, such as, the devoted maintenance of a record for every child that is baptised in the community, including the date of birth and the parental information of the infant. Apart from this, the customary recording of the diary entries and routinary whereabouts, provide us with generous amounts of information.

It’s true that the Indian tradition of Kshatra has witnessed several ups and downs and hundreds of incidents of defeats and death. In reality, our Rajas and Maharajas and other towering Kshatriya warriors, owing to their near-sightedness, misplaced generosity, and needless pride lost their respect, wealth and culture to the forces of barbarism. At times, some of these kings turned out to be selfish, narrow-minded and were fatal to Sanatana Dharma.

ஸம்ஹிதைகளில் உபநயனம்

கிருஹ்ய சூத்திரங்களில் குறிக்கப்படும் உபநயனத்துக்கான அம்சங்களை ரிக் வேத ஸம்ஹிதையிலேயே நம்மால் காண முடிகிறது.[1] பலி பீடமான  யூப ஸ்தம்பத்தை (yūpa-stambha) இளைஞனாகப் போற்றுகிறார்கள் – “மேகலை அணிந்து அழகாய் அலங்கரிக்கப்பட்ட பாலகன் இதோ வருகிறான் (மேகலை அணிந்த பாலகனை ரசானுபாவமாக யூப ஸ்தம்பத்தோடு இங்கே ஒப்பிடுகிறார்கள்); இப்பிறப்பால் உயர்நிலை அடைகிறான்; தேவதைகளை வணங்கி வழிபடும் ரிஷிகள், பெரும் மகிழ்ச்சிகொண்டு அவனை வளரச் செய்கின்றனர்.”[2]  

On the way to the battleground, Arjuna was profusely sweating all over. He was anxious about the outcome of the day’s war. Looking at his perplexity, Kṛṣṇa said “Gāṇḍīvī! Why are you so demotivated? The ones you have defeated with this bow cannot be defeated by mere mortals. Has anybody survived in an encounter with Bhīṣma or Droṇa. Yet, I wish to give you a piece of advice – you shouldn’t take Karṇa lightly. He is an equal to you. I consider him slightly greater than you in prowess. It is only because of Karṇa’s presence that Duryodhana has gained confidence of being a hero.

ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದನ್ನಾದರೂ ಅದರ ಸ್ವಭಾವ ಇಂಥದ್ದೆಂದು ವರ್ಣಿಸುವಾಗ “ಧರ್ಮ”ಪದವನ್ನು ಸಮಾಸದ ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಬಳಸಿ ನುಡಿಗಟ್ಟಾಗಿಸುವುದುಂಟು. ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ: “ಭೈಕ್ಷ್ಯಧರ್ಮಾ ಯತಯಃ” (ಯತಿಗಳು ಭಿಕ್ಷೆ ಬೇಡಿ ಬದುಕುವಂಥವರು). ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಆಶ್ರಯವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಬದುಕಲಾರದವರು ಬಳ್ಳಿಯಂಥವರು: “ಲತಾಧರ್ಮಾಃ.”

ಬಡವರಿಗೆ ಹಸಿವೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚೆಂಬುದು ನಾಣ್ನುಡಿ. ಗಟ್ಟಿಮುಟ್ಟಾದವರು ಕಲ್ಲನ್ನೂ ತಿಂದು ಅರಗಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆಂದು ಕೂಡ ಹೇಳುವುದುಂಟು. ಇವುಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂವಾದಿ ಮಹಾಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಆ ಪ್ರಕಾರ “ಬಡವರ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಟ್ಟಿಗೆಯೂ ಕರಗಿಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ!”

Among the violinists from Mulbagal (Kolar district, Karnataka), four are prominent:

 

  1. Madhavayya
  2. Ramachandracharya
  3. Venkatappa
  4. Sethumadhava Rao

Among these, Madhavayya was the best when it comes to his command over the instrument and proficiency in the Ragas. But Sethumadhava Rao was the most senior in terms age and experience. Hence, I shall commence by narrating about him first.
