The Story of Guṇavarā and Rūpaśikhā

The prosperous kingdom of Vardhamānapura was ruled by the mighty King Vīrabhuja. He had hundreds of wives. Among them all, Guṇavarā was his dearest, whom he loved more than his own life. Vīrabhuja had everything, but there was still a big void in his life - he had no children.

Dharma is a word not used just by the vaidikas but also employed reverently by the Buddhists and Jains. The vaidikas have employed this term in different śāstras and as part of different terminologies. Śrī Śaṅkara gives the following meaning:

jagataḥ sthiti-kāraṇam prāṇināṃ sākṣād-abhyudaya-niḥśreyasa hetuḥ yaḥ sa dharmaḥ...

The system and set of acts that bestows

(i) Welfare upon beings in the world now and

ರಸಪಾರಮ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕವಿಯು ಎತ್ತಿಹಿಡಿಯುವ ಬಗೆ ಹೀಗೆ:

ಅರ್ಥೋಸ್ತಿ ಚೇನ್ನ ಪದಶುದ್ಧಿರಥಾಸ್ತಿ ಸಾಪಿ

            ನೋ ರೀತಿರಸ್ತಿ ಯದಿ ಸಾ ಘಟನಾ ಕುತಸ್ತ್ಯಾ |

ಸಾಪ್ಯಸ್ತಿ ಚೇನ್ನ ನವವಕ್ರಗತಿಸ್ತದೇತ-

            ದ್ವ್ಯರ್ಥಂ ವಿನಾ ರಸಮಹೋ ಗಹನಂ ಕವಿತ್ವಮ್ || (೨.೩೦)

The Story of Bhavaśarmā

Dear friend, never get caught by women. Their minds are always hard to understand.’

Industries

Mirza Ismail opined that in every town or Hobli, a factory, a trading unit, or some other business should be established. He encouraged prominent people (to set up industries) by promising adequate support from the government. The opportunities thus provided were used by some; they were also misused by some.

ಹರಿಚಂದ್ರ

ಈತನ “ಧರ್ಮಶರ್ಮಾಭ್ಯುದಯ”ವೆಂಬ ಕಾವ್ಯದ ಮೊದಲಿಗೇ ಬರುವ ಕೆಲವೊಂದು ವಿಚಾರಗಳು ಮನನೀಯ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲ್ಪನೆಯಿದ್ದೂ ಶಿಲ್ಪನವಿಲ್ಲದ ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಲ್ಪನವಿದ್ದೂ ಕಲ್ಪನೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಎರಡು ಬಗೆಯ ವಿಪರ್ಯಾಸಗಳನ್ನು ಕವಿ ಮನಗಾಣಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ:

ಅರ್ಥೇ ಹೃದಿಸ್ಥೇಪಿ ಕವಿರ್ನ ಕಶ್ಚಿ-

            ನ್ನಿರ್ಗ್ರಂಥಿಗೀರ್ಗುಂಫವಿಚಕ್ಷಣಃ ಸ್ಯಾತ್ |

ಜಿಹ್ವಾಂಚಲಸ್ಪರ್ಶಮಪಾಸ್ಯ ಪಾತುಂ
